Vocals: Christopher (Duranimal) Duran

The lead vocalist for KattyWompus makes his home in Sacramento and has been involved with music for the better part of his life.
Fans are used to hearing the raspy-voiced, energetic Duran belt it out on stage, but he has other talents as well.
“I play sax, piano and a little guitar … very little guitar,” he said.

Duran got turned on to music by his father who owned a night club and he’s been playing and singing in several bands for decades.
An audio visual tech by day, Duran said he spends what little spare time he has sleeping and hanging with his family and friends.

We all have favorite bands and types of music (aside from Wompus) Duran said Queen is at the top of his list. “Long live Freddie!”
He got hooked up with KattyWompus more than seven years ago after leaving Dead in Spain because of “creative differences,” he said.

“I got a call from my recording engineer, Patrick Olguin saying he had a band that needed a singer songwriter. I checked out their music, wrote five songs over that weekend and went into the studio shortly after to record the first album,” Duran said.

One of his most memorable stage moments was jamming with Motley Crue at the Oasis Ballroom during their Theater of Pain tour.
When it comes to making music it’s a collaborative effort with the Wompus crew.
“The boys usually come up with a riff, an idea and the meat and potatoes. We hash it out and I will structure it according to intro, verse, bridge and chorus.

Duran writes all the lyrics for the group, usually based on his mood, the feel of the song or input from his band mates. Above all KattyWompus is a family for Duran.
“We have been through it all -- the loss of a band mate, loved ones, friends and girlfriends. There have been new wifes, children, new cars new homes and three different Kattyshacks. You name it we have lived it as a family should and a family does. Amen!
